In the fall Kirstie's teacher told the class that they would ride a bus and go on a field trip to the zoo. Well, springtime finally rolled around and it was finally field trip day! I signed up to be a chaperone, along with 15 other parents. (I think there are only 22 kids in the class.) There wasn't enough room on the bus for all the parents, so we had to drive up on our own. At first I thought it would've been fun to ride on the bus with Kirstie for her first time, but in the end I was glad to ride in an air-conditioned car with 5 other adults rather than a hot bus with 75 excited kindergarteners!
It was a beautiful day for the zoo! Perfect weather, just a bit crowded-- lots of field trips as well as spring breakers. Kirstie and her friend Ruthie were partners, but we joined a another group to walk around with-- William, Ethan and their mom (my friend.)
The animals were all bring pretty active-- it was feeding time for a lot of them, so that was fun. We saw the tiger swim in his water, and rhinos being fed. Kirstie loved seeing the chimpanzees "playing dress up." One of them had a white sheet wrapped around him and it looked like he was being a bride. We watched a zookeeper feed the gorillas and asked her a few questions. We learned that his favorite book is a Barbie book!!
Kirstie's friend Elise moved away. But we heard that her school was going to be at the zoo that day as well. We ran into her almost first thing! They were glad to see each other, but weren't quite sure how to respond to each other.
We met up with a few other groups for snack time.
Towards the end, we joined with another group of girls-- Brooklyn and Amber. The Pink Girls.
The girls got a kick out of this gorilla. He was eating, walked over to the window, and sat down with his back towards them.
It was a fun-filled day. If you ask any of the kids, I think they'd all agree that the bus ride was the best part of it all!
