We had such a great time on Memorial Day. With both of our families withing 10 minutes of us, we're usually having to pick who to spend holidays with. This year however, neither side of the family was planning anything, so we were left on our to do whatever we wanted.
On Sunday we went to some cemeteries to visit some graves. It's interesting that we didn't visit any family members' graves. Instead we went to visit our friend Jen's grave. She was a dear friend to both of us in the singles ward who passed away unexpectedly 6 years ago. We both miss her and try to make a point of visiting her grave at least once a year. We also went to visit the graves of the children of friends of ours. (How sad that we're only in our early 30s, yet have 2 sets of friends who have lost children. Life isn't fair.) One of them, Kenzie, was one of my laurels who was killed in a car accident almost 2 years ago. I love my young women like they were my own. Kenzie's aunts, uncles, and cousins were there so we visited with them for a bit.
Last June our friends had a stillborn baby. His grave is nearby Kenzie's so we stopped by that one as well to place flowers. We hate to see our friends hurting and grieving over the loss of their kids, and felt that something as simple as remembering their kids this weekend would hopefully be a support to them.
Ok. On to the fun stuff. Our kids had made up their mind earlier in the week that eating breakfast outside would be the coolest thing ever. So, we took our cereal and ate it in the backyard. The kids played outside with the neighbor kids while I did a few piano lessons. Then, we packed a lunch and headed over to Liberty Park where we played, had a picnic, rolled down the giant hill, and walked all around the park.
Later after naptime/quiet time, Brent cleaned out the cars while I did another piano lesson and the kids played some more with our neighbors. Afterwards we barbecued some hamburgers (eating our third meal outside), played some baseball in the backyard, oh yeah-- and the neighbor kids came over again.

We sent the neighbors home and started a fire to make some smores. We've only done smores with the kids when we've slept outside with them, I guess. Kirstie was sorely disappointed to learn she's be sleeping inside. She still insisted on changing into her pjs to make the smores.
Kirstie took this picture of the fire.
Ian took this one.
Darn it! How do you rotate a picture once you've put it in the post?
