Draper Days & Bday Party #1

Last Saturday was Draper Days!  We got together with Brent's family in the morning for the parade.  We always get there early (not to get a spot-- our spot was reserved a week earlier, crazy!)  to eat breakfast and have fun before it begins.

Kirstie and her cousin Payton.

Ian, Sydnee, Kirstie and Payton checking to see if the parade was coming down the street yet.

Police motorcycles are always fun, despite their loud sirens.  The next day Kirstie was riding her bike in circles in the road, just like the were doing at the parade.

Ian was, of course, in heaven with all the police, fire trucks and ambulances!

Kirstie had a favorite-- all the "princesses."  Payton had brought a crown to the parade, but let Kirstie wear it since we were also celebrating her birthday that day.  All the royalty would comment to Kirstie about her crown and call her princess.  She LOVED that special attention!

A bulldozer too?  Could this day get any better?

Yes, it could-- here's Tinkerbell or some sort of fairy that stopped by to talk to Kirstie.

Their cousin Kamden was also there.  He likes to play pretty rough.  She went to give him a hug and ended up being lifted off the ground by him.

And of course, there was all the candy, candy, and more candy.  Our two kids made quite the haul!  We also got quite a few otter pops this year too!

After the parade we went back to grandma and grandpa's house to cool off in the pool, have some lunch and celebrate Kirstie's birthday.  Since her birthday is on the 24th of July, it makes having a party kind of tricky.  So instead we combine her party with Draper Days with the Buchanans and with the 24th of July with the Olsens.  Not how I would prefer to do it at all for lots of reasons, but I guess it works.

Cake #1!  We're doing a Strawberry Shortcake party this year, so I put Strawberry and all her friends on top of the cake.  It was so warm that the frosting was too soft and the dolls kept sliding off the cake!

Kirstie has never liked being sung Happy Birthday to.  She likes the idea of it, but every year ends up in tears.  It's just too much for her to be the center of attention!  This year she insisted on sitting on Brent's lap.  She teared up a bit, but didn't really cry.  We're making progress!  Sweet, sensitive girl!!

But when it was time to eat the cake, she felt much better about things!
