Our Kirstie-girl is 5 years old!! She's been looking forward to her birthday...well, since her 4th birthday. She's been planning and planning and planning everything she wanted to do for it. One plus of having your birthday on a holiday is that there usually no school or work. But Brent had to work that day, so it our plans got thrown off a bit. Me and the kids watched the parade in the morning. They love seeing all the floats that we had seen at the preview. Ian loved the marching bands and made sure that he had his drum with him to play along with them. Watching the parade just brings back memories of the day Kirstie was born. It was on the tv at the hospital while I waited and waited and waited for Kirstie to come!
Later that afternoon, we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa Olsen's house for Kirstie's birthday party and some Pioneer Day fun. One downside to having a holiday birthday is that it can be difficult to get family together for a party. Since it's a holiday, people want to have bbqs and parties. We just can't host that for both sides of the family every year. That's why we split up the families and have 2 different parties each year. I think Kirstie really likes it. It works out fine, but it means I have to decorate and make cakes for multiple parties. It's pretty exhausting.
Kirstie and I have wonderful cousins who they love playing with!
(Here's Kirstie, Adi, Emma, Owen and Paige)
Grandpa just built this sandbox. The kids put it to good use!
Of course, presents are always fun! She got some fun things!!
Every year Kirstie cries when we sing Happy Birthday to her. But she was pretty brave this year and we made it through without tears. But she did have one request-- we couldn't sing cha-cha-cha after each line-- a family tradition.
Grandpa pulled out the karaoke machine later that night and the kids had fun performing for each other. Kirstie LOVES singing!
Melissa and I took a turn as well. We pulled out my old Tiffany tapes and performed our old favorite "I Think We're Alone Now." We even did the same dance routine that we used to do when we were younger. Yep, we totally rocked it. Next time I think we'll out on some Paula Abdul! I love that they have a tape player that works!!
My parents even did some crooning for us!
We ended the night with a great firework show. Neighbors all around were shooting off the big, giant fireworks. I like that other people spend the money on them, but I get to enjoy them! I took the kids that afternoon to pick out just a few little fountain fireworks. They're kinda funny to see while there are big, giant ones going on! But they were happy that they got to pick them out themselves.
It was a great birthday weekend for Kirstie!
We love her so much and we're so glad that she's part of our family.
