A Bewitching Time

Last Friday, after school, we met our friends at Gardner Village to see the witch displays.  My friend Kim and her family moved away this summer.  We miss seeing them on a regular basis.  Kirstie especially misses Elise.  She's always so worried that we won't see her anymore.  So, it was nice to spend some time together. We've come to see the witches for a couple of years now.  We were disappointed to find them charging $5 for parking this year.  (Luckily, Kim warned me before I got there, so I was able to find a spot on the road.)  Something else different this year-- no stroller.  I guess it's nice not to have to worry about manuvering it through crowds.  But I miss having somewhere to put everything-- purse, jackets, etc.  I'm not a fan of carrying things around.   It also means my kids are growing up-- way too fast!

The witches at Gardner Village are so cute and so creative.  They have a little scavenger hunt to find all the witches.  When you complete it you can buy a cookie for a good discount (they were free last year.)  Unfortunately, the line to buy the cookie was too long.  I told my kids we could just make cookies at home instead.  They seemed satisfied with that answer.

The fireman witch was on of Ian's favorite witches.
Silly me, I forgot to bring bread to feed the ducks, much to Kirstie's dismay.

Two cute girls.  They've been friends since they were born!

Ian's other favorite witches-- the ones playing baseball.  That night he told Brent all about them.  He was very animated-- acting out their baseball game.

This was again, the kids' favorite witch.  She's sitting on the potty reading a book.  Later that day, Kirstie tried it out.  I noticed that she'd been in the bathroom for awhile, so I knocked on the door and asked if she was ok.  "Yes!"  A few minutes later, I knocked again and went in.  "No! No!  No!"  I think she was a little embarrassed that I caught her reading her Barbie book on the toilet.  But it didn't stop her from doing it again.  I think she's found a new favorite place to hide and read!

A lot of people who come dress up in witch hats/costumes.  They also have hired actors dressed as witches.  I'm not going to lie-- they're kinda weird.  Nice, but weird.  The kids weren't sure if they wanted a picture with them, but they finally agreed to a quick snapshot.

They have a stage set up for performances throughout the day.  In between performances, they have music playing and kids can get up there and dance.  I didn't think we'd ever get Kirstie off that stage. She really loves dancing!!

Don't forget baby Crew!

Kirstie thought she was so funny pulling this face!

My two cuties.  I was afraid that Ian wouldn't like any of the witches.  He hasn't been a fan of scary Halloween things.  In fact, he's had nightmares a few times about things he's seen.  I think seeing the fireman and baseball witches first off helped him warm up to the rest of the witches.  Still, he was pretty nervous about sitting this close to the witch.
