We have a tradition in our family to take a picture each week (or month) of our baby to show their growth. We put them next to a piece of paper showing their age so that we can use it to compare how big they are getting!
Here's Tanner at 1 week old. He's a good little baby. He's only been in our home for a few days, but we love him so much! We're trying to figure out his eating/sleeping schedule. He loves to stay up for a couple of hours after his 3 am feeding. I usually just put him in the swing, and read a book while waiting for him to fall back asleep.
This boy doesn't get much alone time. The kids are constantly checking on him, or "watching over him" as they put it. He's the first thing they want to see when they wake up in the morning. And he's given multiple kisses and hugs before going to bed at night.
We took Tanner in for his 2 week appointment a couple of days early so that we could keep an eye on his weight. He was still a few ounces under birth weight. But we went back later that week for his circumcision and he had passed his birth weight by a few ounces. So, that was good news. At this first appointment, we pointed out that his umbilical cord still hadn't fallen off. Kirstie's also took a long time-- about a month. It's crazy to see how many similarities there are between the two of them. The dr said it would stay on for another week probably, but two days later it had fallen off. The kids were ecstatic-- Ian especially. He'd been waiting and waiting for this to happen so that Tanner would finally have a belly button! Each time I changed his diaper, they'd come in and tell Tanner excitedly, "Tanner, you have a belly button now!"
I got to watch them do his circumcision, which was very interesting. Tanner did so well and hardly cried until the very end. Then he let loose and cried and cried! Poor boy! The nurse told me to take my time calming him down. But I soon found that calming down was not about to happen anytime soon, so we just took the screaming baby home. There's just something about being in your own home and your own surroundings that makes it easier to calm babies down!
Tanner loves to be on his right side. When we lay him down, he always rolls over that way. His head is always turned towards the right, making it hard to get a great picture of his face.
Our friends gave him this hilarious mustache binkie. Love it!
